Summary Description of Position
Assists in defining Company goals, objectives and approach for safety issues. Participates in the Company's Safety, Health and Environment Management Committee. Assists in identifying ways to continuously improve the Company's safety performance and promote and facilitate sharing and adoption of best safety practices and procedures. Assists in developing the Company's response to proposed new regulations and trade association initiatives. Provides an advisory service to corporate and division management in the broad area of occupational safety and regulatory compliance. Maintains knowledge of current and proposed regulations and laws pertaining to occupational safety and health so that the company can operate in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Acquires and maintains knowledge of methods to prevent accidents, injuries and property losses so that sound advice can be given to management. Assists divisions in providing employees a safe and healthful work place and in preventing accident. This position will be a participant in Company-wide safety process improvement initiatives.
Education, Experience, Skills Required
This position requires ten to twenty years experience in safety and health management, safety program development, accident prevention and regulatory compliance. While a Bachelor of Science degree in safety or a related field is a minimum requirement, a post graduate degree in Safety and Health or Industrial Hygiene is preferred. The position also requires extensive knowledge of safety, loss control management, and safety process improvement. Advanced interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills and the ability to facilitate and influence outcomes are required. Advanced skills in hazard analysis and control are also required, and the candidate will need extensive experience in developing best practices and safety procedures.

- Facilitation of all company and client health and safety systems through coaching, mentoring and education of employees and supervisors.

Qualifications
Education:
- Post secondary qualifications in health and safety or equivalent underground mining related qualifications
- CMSP or CSP designations are a definite asset
- MSHA Certified Instructor IU, IS (MR and optional asset)
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years underground mining safety or supervisory experience

For a few more details the successful candidate will preferably have an undergraduate degree in Health, Safety or related field. A minimum of ten years previous experience in a safety position, with at least five years in a supervisory capacity is required. Experience with governmental regulatory requirements and MSHA regulations are essential. Professional industry registration would be a plus. Solid experience and success as trainer is a must.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as well as solid platform/presentation skills. The incumbent will also p ossess leadership qualities which command the respect and trust of the work force, providing strong direction to a cohesive safety team, along with a high level of integrity. Finally, strong organizational and analytical skills are necessary for success in this position; with the ability to take initiative and be self-motivated.
The Manager, Safety & Training will report directly to the President and have two (2) Safety Coordinators reporting directly to them (Manager). Staff will be added as needed. |

Description:
The position provides technical support for safety and industrial hygiene compliance activities as needed through a shared services concept.
- Responsible for providing technical and regulatory expertise to maintain safety and industrial hygiene compliance through support and program assistance for All Middle Georgia Kaolin Operations.

Job Vacancy: Operational Risk Advisor
International Mining Company

Reports To: Senior Advisor Operational Risk & Change Management
PURPOSE
The position deals with operational, project, technical, safety, health, environmental, and security risk and change management. The individual will participate as a member of the Corporate Safety and Health team in the planning, development, and implementation of Corporate Risk and Change Management. As a corporate adviser, the position shall support the accumulation of knowledge and consistent application of risk and change management processes across all facilities including conceptual design, engineering, construction, operations and closure.
The mandate is to enhance the existing processes and where needed, develop and communicate new tools. This position will provide facilitation and training for team based risk assessment sessions, evaluation of risk and opportunities, and include a process of identification of controls to ensure a safe, healthy, productive and environmentally sound workplace.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the implementation of a common framework for the systematic identification and management of risks and opportunities throughout the company and its Joint Ventures .
- Supports Operations in the application of Risk and Change Management processes addressing operations processes with a technical focus aimed at establishing a constructive risk management culture throughout the corporation.
- Supports the risk management process globally through technical support, team based assessments and evaluation of individual workplace practices.
- Develops and maintains risk and change management tools for the use of the organization.
- Assists in developing further applications of risk management tools within various disciplines throughout the corporation.
- Develops and conducts risk and change management training.
- Facilitates formal risk and change management assessments.

- Maintains communications with operational Manager’s, Technical Services and other appropriate disciplines.
- Build and sustain effective relationships and alliances by employing effective communications throughout the organization with attention to consistent risk management and mitigation issues.
- Provides regular updates to all sites, regions and the corporation relating to risk and change management best practice findings, and lessons learned.
- Assists corporate groups dealing with financial and insurance risk as requested.
ORGANIZATION
The Operational Risk Advisor reports to the Senior Advisor Operational Risk & Change Management. There are no direct reports to this position. Peers to the position include a Corporate Industrial Hygienist and three Corporate Safety and Health Managers. The position will collaborate with all levels in the organization including management, supervisory and worker levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A B.S. degree in Mining Engineering, Science or closely related discipline is required.
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive operational roles is required.
- Experience with engineering, metallurgy or mining background is required.
- Experience with underground mining is desirable.
- Fundamental knowledge of Risk and Change Management processes is mandatory.
- Proven history of excellent facilitation and presentation skills is preferred.
- Extensive involvement in risk assessments of operational practices and workplaces.
- Willingness to travel extensively, 70% of the time, globally is required.
- Personal history must allow for issue of entry visas to a variety of countries.
