Imerys North America Ceramics has an opportunity for an Area EHS Manager in Sandersville , GA. This position reports to the Kaolin Operations Manager.

The North America Ceramics group mines and processes a
variety of ball clay, kaolin, sodium & potassium feldspar, mica,
and quartz for use in traditional ceramics market segments; namely
sanitaryware, tiles, tableware, electrical porcelain, and fiberglass
along with numerous rubber & elastomeric coatings, and
adhesive/caulk/sealant applications.

The EHS Manager will provide direct EHS leadership
and management for the following North America Ceramics (NAC)
operation(s): Sandersville GA & Langley SC Kaolin Operations and
surrounding area kaolin mining operations and Monticello/Siloam GA
Feldspar Operations. This includes:

-Plan, organize, manage and evaluate EHS compliance programs/systems

They will also provide technical and regulatory

Requirements

  • The EHS Area Manager should have 7 -10 years
    experience as an EHS professional preferably in a mining or
    mining-related operations environment, with specific Safety experience
    with MSHA regulations, standards and practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate EHS discipline (such as Chemical/Environmental/Safety engineering or related area).

  • Participates in high level risk studies as needed.
  • Participates in formal risk studies by external specialists.
  • Participates in risk management audits on a periodic basis.
  • Provides independent assessment of risk management processes during site visits
  • Participates in annual Site-based Risk Assessment process to define critical risks for each site.
  • Ensures that operations understand the need to apply appropriate processes for all potential major and catastrophic risks
  • Maintains a Global Risk Register.
  • Works with EHSS – Responsibility Information Management System – data base manager to support data collection and collation.
  • Reviews major AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for consistency in the application of Risk Benefit Analysis.
  • Maintains communications with operational Manager’s, Technical Services and other appropriate disciplines.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships and
    alliances by employing effective communications throughout the
    organization with attention to consistent risk management and mitigation
    issues.
  • Provides regular updates to all sites, regions
    and the corporation relating to risk and change management best practice
    findings, and lessons learned.
  • Assists corporate groups dealing with financial and insurance risk as requested.

ORGANIZATION

The Operational Risk Advisor reports to the Senior
Advisor Operational Risk & Change Management. There are no direct
reports to this position. Peers to the position include a Corporate
Industrial Hygienist and three Corporate Safety and Health Managers. The
position will collaborate with all levels in the organization including
management, supervisory and worker levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A B.S. degree in Mining Engineering, Science or closely related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive operational roles is required.
  • Experience with engineering, metallurgy or mining background is required.
  • Experience with underground mining is desirable.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Risk and Change Management processes is mandatory.
  • Proven history of excellent facilitation and presentation skills is preferred.
  • Extensive involvement in risk assessments of operational practices and workplaces.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, 70% of the time, globally is required.
  • Personal history must allow for issue of entry visas to a variety of countries.
